Don't know about you, but I'm feeling these sage words of Patagonia's founder, Yvonne Chouinard. He wrote them in an article entitled "Why Food" in April of 2020 in response to the question why Patagonia was starting to sell food.

He writes about how modern industrial agriculture is destroying topsoil in pursuit of greater profits. In my work of helping folks have a positive relationship with food, I encounter diet culture craziness every day (See my Freaky Friday highlights if you'd like). In our society's frantic pursuit of the thin ideal - like when you're told you can't eat after 7pm (or before 11am) or that bananas have too much sugar, it sums things up perfectly to say, "our priorities have gotten out of whack."

What's up with the bubble bath? Well, I'm inspired

What's up with the bubble bath? Well, I'm inspired to post about the importance of PLEASURE in our lives. And yes, it absolutely connects to how we eat and our relationship with food. How? Well, sometimes, if we're not stopping to play, enjoy, delight, and experience pleasure, food can become the simple, quick "instant gratification" answer to this basic human need and right... a sure-fire way to satisfy the senses. And of course there's nothing wrong with deriving pleasure from food - we want it to be this way, and yet it's ideally not our ONLY source of "feel good" vibes.

Pleasure looks different to us all -- it could be a quiet bubble bath, sexual arousal, a massage, wonderful cuddles. You deserve it. Go get some.

I love this guidepost’s simplicity on how to eat for our best health AND the health of the planet!!! Just remember 1+1. That’s one serving of dairy per day, in addition to an optional serving of animal-based protein. Let beans, lentils, soy, nuts, veggies, fruit and plant-based oils fill the rest of your day. I’m taking this advice to heart. Our planet demands it. Thanks to @nhclimatehealth for hosting an incredibly impactful presentation from Walter Willett, physician and epidemiologist who has conducted some of the most robust nutrition research of all time.
